Pendley Shakespeare Festival 60th Anniversary Year.
In 1949, Dorian Williams founded the Pendley Shakespeare Festival amid the Victorian finery of his magnificent ancestral home. Sixty years later, it remains our privilege to bring Shakespeare to new audiences in the grounds of this stunning Manor House. Join us from the 4th to the 15th August for Shakespeare alfresco! Explore the twilight; embrace the elements; escape the Forest of Athens to the Fairyland of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, before Birnam Wood comes to Pendley Manor in an electrifying new production of Macbeth. The beautiful grounds of the Hotel will open at 6pm, so we guarantee time enough to enjoy a picnic or why not treat yourself to a pre-show meal in our award-winning restaurant?
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (4th – 8th August)
Will Edwards’ first production at Pendley, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is Shakespeare’s quintessential romantic comedy. Notorious thespian Peter Broad (Sir Toby Belch, Twelfth Night 2008) plays the notorious thespian Nick Bottom.
Macbeth (11th – 15th August)
Following his magical production of The Tempest in 2007, Stephen Artus returns to Pendley to direct Macbeth. With Sarah Whitehouse (Viola, Twelfth Night 2008) as Lady Macbeth, the production promises to be "bloody, bold and resolute"!
