Dear Open Magazine,
I am currently part of a team of people creating an organization that aims to act as a distribution and exhibition platform promoting independent and student filmmakers.
We will be holding monthly screenings at The George & Dragon, 2 Hackney Road and actively encourage the filmmaker(s) to explain their work as part of a rather relaxed Q & A after each screening. This event breaks down the barrier between the filmmaker and the consumer and offers a more democratic approach to understanding a piece of moving image film or video.
Our next event will be on Sunday 16th August and will begin at 3pm. The screenings will be finished by 6:30PM at which time, the Sunday regulars will have emerged.
The forthcoming event will be our second ever event but have arranged various advancements from what was an already successful afternoon last time. Merchandising is currently being created, schemes and systems are being implemented to organize a membership option and live performance is being arranged.
Can we arrange something between us to promote this organization? Perhaps advertising space within the website/ at your available space for performers and submissions? We are always seeking new material, so if you or your colleagues would like to become apart of it, let us know. We operate a scheme that ensures the filmmaker receives a small fee for his/her entry.
Please visit our website, albeit rather in a rudimentary stage at present, to see our poster and more details of what we represent. We also have a facebook page- conveniently titled ‘Short Sundays’- so please visit!
We are all very optimistic about this project and would love to hear your thoughts/ ideas etc.. to further the chances of success.
Many thanks,
Ben Parkin
