London is the place to be right now. The Obamas have crossed the pond for their celeb-style state visit, and from over the Channel famed Parisian cabaret Le Crazy Horse will be bringing their own brand of glitz and sparkle, as they make their UK debut at the Supper Club.
Le Crazy Horse has enjoyed 60 years of rave reviews and seen guest performances from Dita Von Teese and Pamela Anderson as well as fashion collaborations with Azzedine Alaia, Emanuel Ungaro, and Roberto Cavalli. For London, the girls will be wearing custom-made Christian Louboutin and The Supper Club has been completely renovated in preparation for the show. New guest celebrity chiefs will be brought in throughout the one month run.
The show was founded in 1951 by Alain Bernardin and since then has drawn over 10 million spectators and is cconsidered a national monument, a cultural phenomenon and an integral part of the national heritage in France. Among those who have seen the show over the years, include the late Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and President John F. Kennedy, Salvador Dali and more recently, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Jean Paul Gaultier, Pedro Almodovar, Sting and Beyonce.
Renowned as the finest avant-garde cabaret in the world, the troupe will perform a series of highly aesthetic and visual tableau dubbed ‘Crazy Moments from Paris – a series of seductive moments.
So why bring this quintessentially Parisian show to London?
“London is a bustling world capital for fashion and entertainment, ” says Andree Deissenberg, MD of Le Crazy Horse. ” It therefore seemed obvious that one day we present a show here – today we finally we have an opportunity. In addition, since over thirty years, every single Crazy Horse Paris show in the world opens with the iconic act “God Save Our Bareskin”, which features Royal Horse Guards with a twist. I can’t wait to present it to English audiences, just a few miles down the road from Buckingham Palace.”
Playboy’s Hugh Hefner should perhaps take a feather out of Le Crazy Horse’s boa. The press launch of London’s Playboy Club is today, and has been dogged by protest from feminists who say that the club is degrading. So when does sophistication and arty burlesque turn into sleaze? As with many things, it’s all about class, presentation and culture. We’d love to know what you think.
