And so from thinking to drinking. After spending the day at Hay, and listening to authors Esther Freud, Annalesa McAfee and Linda Grant ( talking about her new book We’ve Never Had it so Good ) it’s time to head to the Hay Festival Range Rover Dinner, hosted by GQ Editor Dylan Jones and Soho House Founder and CEO Nick Jones, held at Cabalva House, the home of festival president Revel Guest.
It’s a really fun, relaxed affair, in a marquee draped with pretty bunting and trestle tables adorned with Sweet Williams. I love chatting with George and Larry Lamb – Larry is at Hay to talk about his new book Mummy’s Boy; My Autobiography – catching up with AC Grayling and dancing with the girls from GQ.
Who’s There : Nigella Lawson, Mariella Frostrup, AA Gill, Toby Young, David Baddiel, Jemima Khan, David Bailey, Ed Vaizey, Tom Hollander
What’s the Gossip? : Nigella admits to being averse to jewellery in case it drops into her cooking, and is wearing a cheap ‘n’ cheerful Swatch with a bright pink face.
Mariella covers her locks with her beige pashmina, presumably to stop her hair frizzing in the drizzle.
Larry Lamb is a cheeky chatterbox and George Lamb loves his mum, who was sitting next to him.
What we ate: Ham hock, salad, lamb, seabass, chocolate pudding, Eton Mess
We drank : Fizz

nice to have an insider’s view of the fun and frolicking at the festival!
