Today sees the London launch of I, Culture the biggest international festival of art, theatre, literature, music and design taking place this year, spanning 10 international cities and with over 400 events.
The festival celebrates the Polish Presidency of the European Union, and running from now until December, opens a window on the arts from Poland that we may never have looked through.
This weekend sees the world premiere of sci-fi spectacular Planet Lem, from Polish company Teatr Biuro Podrozy. This outdoor multimedia extravaganza, complete with spaceship, robots and aliens is a jaw-dropping comment on contemporary living and an apocalyptic vision of our future. Taken from sci-fi writer Stanislaw Lem’s comments on our world, it promises to be a spectacular performance, bringing science fiction to the South Bank.
I, Culture Weekend will also feature the I, Culture Puzzle Contemporary Craft Workshop, an innovative two day workshop led by artist Monika Jakubiak that will culminate in the public creating a large scale craft-work, forming part of a global craft puzzle separated across 12 global cities.
I, Culture, The Square, National Theatre, South Bank, London, July 1st – 3rd. For more details and performance times please visit here
