One of our favourite galleries in London, the Little Black Gallery, has just opened an exhibition of photographer Terry O’Neill’s most iconic images.
Terry is one of the greatest British photographers of the 20th century and last night was honoured with the Centenary Medal by the Royal Photographic Society, recognising outstanding contribution to the art and science of photography, joining a distinguished list of globally respected photographers who have received this prestigious award, including: Albert Watson, Annie Leibovitz, David Bailey, and Don McCullin.
Terry has achieved worldwide success documenting the fashion, style, and celebrities from the 1960s until the present and his subjects read like a who’s who of our recent culture : David Bowie, Bridgitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Clint Eastwood and Goldie Hawn, to name but a very few. His distinct style of photographing his subjects in unconventional settings, and of ‘capturing the moment ‘ ( often possible due to the rapport he built up with his subject ) has made his work endure and is highly collectable.
This new show IT GIRLS & BOYS includes some images available to buy for the first time of icons including the Rolling Stones, Jean Shrimpton, Britt Ekland & Peter Sellers, Goldie Hawn, Ursula Andress, and Frank Sinatra – amongst many others.
To meet the man himself, Terry will be signing copies of his book ‘Celebrity’ at the Gallery on Saturday 24 September from 11.45am-12.45pm
