We went along to meet Diana Metta and Chantal Lauren, the pair behind creative jewellery brand Dicha and discovered how they’re turning accessories into art.
As a self-confessed jewellery junkie, I needed no second invitation to head towards Paddington to meet the founders of Dicha this morning. And despite the grey London weather, there may well have been a rainbow as I certainly found a pot of gold when I arrived.
Diana Metta and Chantal Lauren have created two very different yet unusually inspiring jewellery collections as well as a limited range of ultra feminine evening bags, since they launched the business three years ago. Sourcing vintage pieces at fairs in London, Paris and New York, the passionate buyers return with their treasure to adorn, embellish and transform each into works of art. The result is neither costume nor fine jewellery, these girls have created a category of their own.
One of the sisters of the retail emporium Paul and Joe, Diane was already designing jewellery before she moved on from the fashion brand. At first glance, it is clear from Diane’s striking and glamorous style how she embodies her passion for this enterprising yet creative work.
As the lead creative of the duo, Diane spends hours in her workshop adding drama, emotion and movement to her loot before giving them exotic names such as Serena, Bettina and Caelie.
Chantal, co-founder and creative brand ambassador of Pout cosmetics, is the other driving force of this formidable team. She channels her creativity and determinism into the massive potential of this niche brand. Already stocked in London branches of Matches, D&Me, in Brighton’s Union and online on Net- a- Porter, these eye-catching wonders are being snapped up. She enthuses: ‘ I adore the way I feel when I wear a statement piece from our collection. It isn’t a coincidence that they have been described as ‘show-stoppers’ by our clients.’
While the Decades Collection is a higher price point, it tends to attract those who would rather die than be seen in a less than unique creation. Fans include Christina Hendrix, Blake Lively, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova and Madonna.
The Dicha Mia limited edition friendship bracelets and ornate dangle earrings are the cheekier and infinitely more interesting versions of any competitors in this already crowded market. Here, Diane has fused her exotic taste with affordable charm which will be sure to delight any friend this Christmas.
Charms, symbols, tassels and semi precious sparkles. Call me fickle but they simply make me happy.
