Is Adee still the ‘L’Enfant Terrible’ of the hair industry?
Yesterday I braved the cold and headed in to town to visit Adee Phelan at his extremely cool Covent Garden salon. Rich wood flooring extends throughout the space, with mustard chesterfields, sleek Philippe Starck desks and opulent gold mirrors completing the funky-classic aesthetic. Another Adee stamp is the stylish choice of music, a welcome contrast to the beige and predictable sounds that fill the identikit salons that litter our high streets.
I have followed Adee (not in a stalker-ish way) since he appeared in Channel 4s The Salon, an awareness building venture which lead to many other TV (and tabloid) appearances. Many of you may also recall the attention grabbing ‘do’ he created for David Beckhams iconic GQ cover. Most recently he returned to Channel 4, starring in the tear-jerking but ultimately uplifting The Secret Millionaire. The ever ambitious Mr Phelan looks set to exceed the success of 2011, a year which saw him proudly return to his beloved Birmingham to open an impressive 5000 sq feet salon in The Cube, with salons opening in both St Martins Lane and New York in the coming months.
I had scheduled a ten minute interview with the award winning hairdresser to chat about his amazing new Colour Remover product while trying to gleam some Xmas party hair tips for you readers/viewers. We ended up nattering for a good 2 hours – testament to Adees infectious enthusiasm and catalogue of fascinating, inspiring and more than occasionally naughty tales. If he doesn’t put everything in a book one day I’m bloomin’ gonna write one for him!
Watch a snippet of our chat via the interview below. You will see us gush about our mutual love for Jonny Depp, hear about Adees aforementioned new super product, his exciting plans for New York and his views on the X factors victors style. As I hoped he also offered up some tips on how to look effortlessly sexy at your Xmas parties.
Adee Phelan Hair Colour Remover…..
Adee Phelan Hair Colour Remover is salon tested and designed for use at home, to restore hair to a more natural or lighter hue. Tested by Adee Phelan’s team of leading colourists there is a version for lighter shades and one for darker tones. It contains no bleach or ammonia, so will not damage or dry the hair. With the bonus of its special ingredient pearl extract, it will actually improve the condition and strength of your hair.
Adee explains: ”My Hair Colour Remover gives you a pampering hair care experience at home and delivers outstanding results. I recommend that you use Hair Colour Remover every third time you colour your hair, particularly if you are choosing a different shade or look. This ensures your hair doesn’t over dry, and will give you a better result. Having a colour-free base enables you to achieve a more vibrant finish and will make sure your colour matches the shade you’ve chosen.
“Hair Colour Remover gives you greater freedom to try out a new look with confidence, knowing that you can take out the colour in less than an hour if you don’t like it; simply remove and re-colour. It’s easy to use, so experiment with colour, go wild – think of my product as your safety net!”
It will go on sale in the UK in late March, costing £14.99.
